Jadzia Wray
Business Cycle ā€“ peak, recession, through, recovery.
Order of the Curve: expansion, then peak, then recession (high unemployment) and
contraction occurs, the bottom is the trough, then thereā€™s expansion again, a peak, and
recession.
- Secular trend
1.) How do you know if youā€™re unemployed?
- You are unemployed if you are looking for a job but canā€™t find one.
- Under 16 and not in the labor force = not a problem.
- If youā€™re in prison, institutionalized ā€“ not in the labor force ā€“ doesnā€™t matter.
People who donā€™t have jobs but itā€™s not a problem: old people, disabled
people, little kids, and students. They are all unemployed.
- Labor Force made of people 16+, not in prison, and people who have job
or looking. If you take out all the people who canā€™t work or donā€™t need to
work, it takes out like half the population.
- To find out how many people work: you get a representative group of
people and call them.
- If you drop out of the labor force, you are no longer unemployed. Reasons
to drop out: discouraged, retired, kids.
