PSY 166 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Banana, Chromatic Adaptation, White Spot
Document Summary
Color is not necessarily a sensation, it can be a sensation but what we experienced was a perception because our brain caused us to see the color and not the current stimulus in the environment. Color can be caused by perception (cid:271)(cid:396)ai(cid:374)"s p(cid:396)o(cid:272)essi(cid:374)g of sti(cid:373)uli. Color helps us recognize object and the state of the objects. Green banana looks iffy, brown banana looks rotten, yellow banana looks good. Warning colors like orange and yellow warn animals that the prey they are aiming for is poisonous. Certain colors hint to hunt an animal such as red. Used in mating male is usually more colorful to attract the female. Not all organisms see color the same way. A human sees the flower as yellow. A bird sees the flower center as black where they would get seeds. Bee sees flower middle area as black because of all the pollen. Each organism has a visual system tuned to their needs.
