Document Summary

Stages of infection: the disease process in which there are usually five stages. Incubation period time between acquisition of the microbe and the first signs or symptoms. The length depends upon the virulence or pathogenicity of the microbe and the status of the immune system and overall health of individual. Prodromal period time of mild, early symptoms such as malaise and muscle aches. The microbe can usually be found or recovered in/from the body. The health care professional usually sees the patient at this time. Note: this is the time when the pathogen is present. Host is reacting with something called innate immunity general form of immunity not terribly specific. This innate immunity tries to control the infection to a localized area. Decline body is returning to normal. If this decline does not occur, the patient succumbs to the infection.
