Document Summary
Interferon this is a group of soluble protein made by various cells. There is interferon, interferon and interferons. They bind to interferon receptors on the adjacent cells. These receptors now signal the nucleus in these uninfected adjacent cells. Complement important set of proteins in the blood that are responsible for innate immunity to a large degree. These (25 of them) are made by hepatocytes and secreted into the blood. They work in cascades to cause inflammation and to help phagocytosis and to help the antibodies of adaptive immunity. They are activated in at least 3 ways, two of which are involved in innate immunity: alternative pathway in this pathway, a pathogen"s surface (lps or glycoproteins of a bacterium) will activate complement protein #3 (c3). Activation is cleavage, so c3 becomes two pieces called c3a and c3b. C3a activates macrophages and mast cells so that they can better phagocytose and release mediators to attract more cells (respectively).
