Termites are actually a superfamily of cockroaches (blattodea) Hidden under pronotum: always facing downwards tegmina, use hindwings to fly thick wax coating to protect from scratching. Can be up to 97mm in length and up to 35 grams. Bathe themselves continuously and bathe each other. Use sexual reproduction largest size ranges they use every type of reproductive form: parthenogenesis, ovipary, ovovipary, vivipary. After molting, female produces an egg case (ootheca) Ootheca is dropped, hidden or sometimes carried until ready to hatch. Hemimetabulous: wing pads can be seen on late stage nymphs. Omnivores: they will eat just about anything and can go long periods of time without eating. High capacity for learning but have poor memory. Can withstand a high level of radiation. Releases a pheromone that allows others to find them: harborages: large groups of insects. Most advanced forms of parenting known in insects. Some only care for ootheca, some take care of 2 instars, some nurse their young!
