Document Summary

Primates are arborial and adapted to very specific environments - hot steamy forests. Our primary ecological niche - tropical rainforest - why we find most of the primates there. Prosimians: loris, lemur, tarsier 1 - we have these guys out of dumb luck. Monkeys: old world vs new world 2. Instead of an eye socket, they have a ring of bone - looks like goggles. Smell - longer snout, wet rhinarium split upper lip. Hands/feet - some digits have claws grooming claw. Teeth - high pointy cusps, tooth comb. Found in the islands of southeast asia. Why they are alive: nocturnal and eat insects. Enclosed eye orbit - more advanced than lemur. Straddles the fence with respect to taxonomy. Platyrrhini: nose like drill holes on the side (similar to tarsier) Prehensile tail (they can hang from tails, acts like another finger)
