baby stepping example:
order parameter- step reflex (behavior) (seen frequently= consistently)
control parameter- fat weight on the baby/ muscle strength/ environment of baby
where stepping originates- quadricep and hamstring- overall muscle contraction between all the muscles in
the hip joint
strongest muscle in leg- quadriceps
flex all muscles in the leg= straightening
cycle of flexing and extending= extended/bent legs- walking
fundamental part of our movement patter= the physical properties to which we are built
order parameters- movement patterns
control parameters- environment of patterns
slide 5: increase value of control parameter, but stability of order parameter increases. Increase speed, until
you slip out of walking or when walking has been completely destabilized. Changing from one movement to
another- the movement you were doing becomes destabilized, not another movement becomes stabilized.
In-phase coordination- both fingers extend and flex (adduct, abduct)
Motion of one half of body can be mirrored by other half of body

As speed increases, the amount of stability decreases. Strong evidence for reason for changing a
movement pattern
Attractor States- ways of showing the movement behavior is stable
Deep attractor- certain that attractor state, movement is energy effiecient and stable
Self organization- baby took step based on overall muscles of how baby was built (inevitable consequences
of the build of the baby)
All different levels of system come together in overall elemements working together, we get movement
pattern in humans

Hysteresis
Transition from one speed to another differs and alters the order parameter (run/walking)
When the walls move away from us, the walls don’t move so we think we must be moving. Perceived that
they are moving backwards if wall was moving forwards
