All information about patients is considered private or confidential, whether written on paper, on a computer, or spoken out loud. Their names, identifiers (address, telephone, fax number, ssn, etc: health information privacy. The health insurance portability and accountability act, otherwise known as hippa, protects the privacy of individually identifiable health information. All workers must have training and understanding of how to apply hippa into our daily work, even as students. The patients also have a right to see and copy their health record, update it, choose how to receive health info, and/or request restriction on certain uses or disclosures: agency policies. Everyone with access to the record is to keep that information private.
