A bureaucracy is any large organization of appointed officials who implement laws & policies ( civil service ) In the u. s. , the bureaucracy carries out responsibilities assigned to them through. The bureaucracy generally falls into four broad types: 1) exec. branch agencies institutionalized & established players. Often, u. s. foreign policy bureaucracies were the very first orgs. created in gov"t. Dep"t of the treasury among the first gov"t agencies. Necessary to help promote commerce & economic stability. People at top of hierarchy enjoy more authority, require more general knowledge & skills, deal with larger issue areas & bigger picture secretary, supported by deputy. Moving down the hierarchy, positions become more specialized and routinized. Individuals have less & less authority to act independently of superiors. Individuals are most likely to repeatedly perform the same tasks that involve small facets of the org. "s operation. 3) federal gov"t bureaucracies employ thousands to assigned duties w/in chain of command.
