What is personality?
- Personality can be defined as the system of enduring, inner characteristics of
individuals that contributes to consistency in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors
- The term personality comes from the Latin word persona, which means mask
- Every personality theory addresses 3 concerns:
How we are like everybody else
How we are like some people
How we are unique (individual differences)
- There are many determinants of personality:

Traits
Sociocultural
Learning
Existential-humanistic
Unconscious
Cognitive
What is science?
- Epistemology (Origins of knowledge)
Rationalism (Plato's skepticism about sensory knowledge; MIND)
Empiricism (Aristotle- importance of observation; EXPERIENCE)
- General Laws (universal principles)
