Slavery drove the economy and was required to produce crops, and complete the tough agricultural labor. There weren"t enough native americans, african slaves were cheaper than indentured servants, and europeans saw the africans as inferior, therefore they used. Those who had the right to enslave others were seen to have liberty in this time period. Societies became more weaponized (in order to control slaves). African rulers used their wit to tax and control the slave trade, benefiting from the high demand.
