The cotton produced by slaves was manufactured in the north, the profits from the cotton industry helped finance industrial growth in the north as well. The south however, didn"t grow in an urban direction like the north. Immigration was discouraged, the economy was solely focused on cotton production and slave ownership, rather than technological advancement and population boost. Other fields included domestic slavery, shipyard, skilled craftsmen, and railroad slaves.
