Directions: watch the video found in the materials section (signing naturally 4-6: gum story). Using the classifier categories explained above, identify one classifier from each type. Write down the specific time frame from the dvd, the classifier type, and then a brief explanation as to what is occurring in that moment that indicates classifier usage. Classifiers in asl can be grounded into three categories. Class - a grouping or category of things represented. Explanation: the couple is an example of a group of people who are shown together. These individuals are shown in space as the signer switches sides to show the distinction between the two individuals. Explanation: the gum gets balled up so we are able to see the shape of the gum and the size as each individual wads it up. Explanation: the gum is thrown on the tree, and it gets stuck there.
