To identify the protagonist and antagonist in a literary work: the art of fiction. Fiction: is a name for stories not entirely factual, but at least partially shaped, made up, imagined. We expect from fiction a sense of how people act, not an authentic chronicle of how, at some past time, a few people acted: literary fiction. Calls for close attention / skilled engagement from the reader: types of short fiction. Modern literary fiction in english has been dominated by two forms: the novel and the short story. Short story: for it has traits more essential than just a particular length. Varieties of fiction: the fable, the parable, and the tale: fable. Fable: brief, often humorous narrative told to illustrate a moral. Characters are often animals who represent specific human qualities.
