Microscopy enabled scientists to see microbes multiplying and manifesting themselves. The germ theory basically explained the idea that microbes and bacteria fester in unsanitary conditions and when lister developed phenol he contributed to the idea of the germ theory by sanitizing surfaces and killing all topical microbes. Microbes can be detected by various micro techniques and testing and they are visualized by staining methods and microscopy. Diagram the path of light through a light microscope and calculate total magnification when given objective and ocular lens. Objective ocular lens = 40x 10 = total of 400 magnification.
