2-3 month olds will watch and smile at other babies out of curiosity. Between 2 and 5 they develop play types: Playing next to another kid bu not nessecarily together. Playing together with a goal in mind. Those who do have more real friends. Those who do are more into pretend play. Those who do can tell the difference between real and fake. By 2 years they begin to choose same sex friends. By age 6 they choose same sex friends of the time. Boy compete with one another, threaten each other, play rougher. Friendships in school years and adolescent years. Trust and helping each other are important aspects of friendships. People have the most friends during their 20s and 30s. Number and quality of friends are very strong predictors of happiness. Qualities of friendships is a better predictors of happiness than family connection qualities. Men"s friendships are based on shared activities as opposed to confiding.
