Frequencies: count of the number of times that something occurs. Average/mean: the sum divided by the number of parts: median: the centermost score in a distribution, mode: the most frequently occurring score in the distribution, general principles: Don"t manipulate stats to fit your ideas more clearly - present the context: make your stats audience friendly by rounding. If you depend strongly on stats help your audience with a visual aid: testimony, lay testimony. Great for pathos building and the "goodwill" part of ethos. Can be found in many places but make sure that there is some accountability from a source if something like a blog entry: expert testimony. Someone who has studied your topic and is respected. Check for bias and use other ideas relating to good sources to determine strength. What about wikipedia: good place to start looking at ideas, but never trust info.
