Document Summary

A lot of philosophers have different ideas about first principles. You must understand your own underlying premises, in order to be able to address someone else"s. A first premises or principle is generally difficult to disagree with. Locke speaks of property, i am my own first property, not surprising. Not my body, i belong to myself. My body is not mine, as in it is a thing. You can"t own a human being, because for locke, you can only own self, you cannot own another self. Locke aims to explain why property outside of self comes to be. Your property is an extension of yourself into nature. Among these are life, liberty, pursuit of happiness - jefferson excerpt of the bill of rights. Locke said however, life, liberty, and property. We all have reason (common sense basically) Locke would say that i have an obligation to care about other"s welfare.
