Document Summary

Meditation vi: prove that external objects are the source of our ideas of bodies. Bodies: substances that take up space / has extension. Mind: substances that do not take up space. Body and mind make up our formal reality. Only two things fall into objective reality: human thought, and the products of human thought (art, literature, etc. ) Something that is real can only come from something that is at least at real. If god were the origin of bodies, we would have a faculty perceiving that knowledge comes from him, since he is not a deceiver. We don"t, thus the origin of bodies is not god. If we were the origin, then we would have a faculty to produce the things we create. Possible caveat: dream scenario, were we create the world around us. We don"t, thus the origin of bodies is not us. Descartian methods for only having true thoughts: Only make decisions when you are clear and distinct.
