People with bd most commonly have comorbid anxiety and also social anxiety is very common. Studies showed that people in depressive stage prefer taking alcohol while in manic. Depressive disorders are among the most common disorders. Depressive disorders are extremely debilitating and have a negative impact on the quality of life. Depressive disorders are associated with increased suicide risk and completed suicides (15% commit suicide) Comorbid with substance abuse and personality disorders (especially borderline) Cognitive symptoms (trouble concentrating, low self-esteem, negative thoughts about oneself, etc. These symptoms must cause significant distress and affect the person"s functioning. Most scientists believe that depressive disorders are multifaceted. Depressed mood for most of the day for at least 2 years. Must have poor appetite/overeating, insomnia/hypersomnia, low energy, low self-esteem, poor concentration, feelings of hopelessness.
