Gay straight and the reason why: the science of sexual orientation. Evidence for a biological influence on sexual orientation. Twin studies suggests a genetic influence, especially in men. Homosexuality is linked to a spectrum of gender-atypical traits, especially in childhood (green, steensma, reiger is in a box in the chapter) Animal models of homosexuality can be generated by prenatal hormonal manipulation. Women w/ congenital adrenal hyperplasia (exposed to high levels of male hormones prenatally) have increase likelihood of same-sex attraction. Lesbian sand gay men are atypical in some anatomical and physiological traits suggesting atypical hormone exposure. Gay and straight men differ in brain structure an function. Males: monozygotic: about 50, dizygotic: about 25, concordance rate: percentage of same sex co twin of gay probands who are themselves gay. Females: monozygotic: about 30 , dizygotic: about 15% Prenatal t: sexual orientation of brain, gendered traits, including sexual orientation.
