Cells that may bind with self antigens: go thru process called apoptosis: cell suicide, neutralized or stimulated to kill themselves. : ex: lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, chron"s disease, type 1 diabetes mellitus, multiple sclerosis: autoimmune disease affect women more often than men, break down of self tolerance. Immune system may reject or kill donated kidney so must be able to suppress immune system with help of medications for rest of life. : a key process- presentation of antigens to t cells cd4 cell: presented with antigen involves mhc & cd4 protein. T cells: activated by cd4 helper t cells. Stimulated by helper t cells: cements relationship btw cytotoxic t cell & virus, analougous to cd4 protein because reinforces interaction btw killer cell / cell that will be killed. Apoptosis: (death by suicide & cleaned by macrophages) which is a cleaner way to die- no inflammation & cant replicate any viruses.
