Document Summary
Phys-p150 lecture 48 3d, virtual reality, and augmented reality. These are ways we use both eyes at the same time, but not as many compared to monocular methods. Convergence: our eyes can rotate to focus on a near object. Stereopsis: closer objects look like they are shifted against the background when they are viewed from two different positions. Usually use two lenses that are separated by a distance comparable to that of our two eyes. Anaglyph: images overlap on screen; are shown in complementary colors. Plusses include that a single projector and a normal screen can be used. Minuses include the fact that the colors are changed and you can"t see them without unusual glasses. New dolby 3d system makes use of a couple filters so that the light that reaches your eyes stimulates the various cones. Reald also uses circularly polarized light to accommodate people not sitting in the middle in the theatre.
