Document Summary
Lawyers duties = handling conflict over interests, goals, and purposes. In (our) culture, the venue to resolve conflicts over (our) legitimate interests is in the court. Exercise of power is controlled by subordinating power to well-defined and impartial principles of law = everyone (including the state) is equal before the law. Everybody should be treated the same (i. e. equally) according to the principles of law = Unlike islam, where the higher law and civil law are the same, in our case, we have civil laws, but our civil laws have to comport with the higher law. Natural law = idea of a perfect law based on the assumption that laws that govern human relationships are just and eternal like the laws that govern the physical universe: they are inherent part of nature. Monism = there is one unitary organic whole with no independent parts. Laws are part of nature -> there is one, single (mono) nature -> monism.
