How the characteristic is observed and measured: self-report, what is the first thing you drink in the morning: coffee, milk, or oj , record you in conversation and count the number of different words, act/sat. Rule, reports, and guidelines written by groups at the national and international levels: belmont report. Enforced and overseen at the university level by the institutional review board (irb) Belmont report: respect the rights and dignity of all persons , informed consent. People are unable to give consent: debriefing. Participant is told even more about the study. Observe and describe behaviors: four approaches.
