Attention is like a focused on a particular spatial location: brightest at center, weak at fringe, dark at periphery: attention particular location. What we pay attention to is a spatial location. Visual neglect: neurological disorder resulting from brain damage. Patients fail to respond to objects contra-lateral to brain lesion. If left side is failing response, but better on right side: left side visual neglect & right parietal lobe damage// vice versa with opposite. Interpreted as failing to distribute attention to that side of space. Suggests that people can also do what is known as object based attention: directing attention to object as opposed to location in space. Issue is attending to objects that begin their existence on once side of space.
