When you have finished chapter 3, you should be able to: understand the importance of the neuron (individual nerve cell) and differentiate among the neuron"s cell body, dendrite, and axon. Called semi-perm because ions are able to move freely through but sodium ions cannot: depolarization: positive ions after membrane all-or-none principle action potential . Multiple sclerosis destroys myelin sheath: polarized: when negative ions are inside resting state - cell membrane. Synaptic transmission: neurons work together through: synapse, synaptic gap, neurotransmitters excitatory , synaptic vesicles, synaptic terminals, receptor sites. Brain can be altered by use of drugs. 3 main parts: medula breathing and reflexes. Allows endocrine glands to communicate with one another.
