Nutrients are essential chemical compounds found in foods.
-These compounds are needed for energy, growth, and to regulate body processes and

-Many of tem cannot be made by the human body
We choose our food for specific reasons

2.Social Reasons and Trend

3.Time and Convenience
-increase in dining out
-change in types of foods in grocery stores
-working families want to spend less than 15 mins cooking
4.Habits and emotions (emotional eating leads to overeating)
-emotional eating is a primary reason for over-eating leading to obesity
-food is an integral part of our lives
-habit snaking while watching TV, working, or routine
Nutrition is the science that studies how nutrients compounds in food provide nourishment,
help us function, and how they affect our health.
Good nutrition allows or effective management of bodyweight which reduces risks of
developing health conditions and death.
Nutrition is evolving, studying of diet components affect gene expression.
Good Nutrition: is providing adequate amounts of substances that your body cannot make
Deficiency:
Acute: negative impact to body function due to deficiency of one nutrient
Chronic: multiple negative impacts to body function due to deficiency of more than one
nutrient
Problems can occur due to excessive intake as well
