Some of his ideas are odd --> "penis envy" Become attracted to your father and eventually men in general because they have what was taken from you (a penis) We are often wrong about the reasons for our actions. Can study the unconscious mind through subtle behaviors, errors of speech, etc. Ego --> "planner" that decides how/ whether to get the things id wants. Id --> instinctual drives; desire for food, sex, warmth, safety. Superego --> internalized societal rules that tell you what (not) to do.
