Communication: the exchange of thoughts, messages or information as by speech, signals, writing or behavior. Interpersonal report: mixing of needs and desires. Information giving: directive or argumentative, exploratory, self-disclosing. Non-verbal: facial expression, body language, often easy to misinterpret, may not match verbal. Any message: 7% verbal, 38% vocal, 55% facial, 100% total emotional impact. Self-disclosure revealing personal, private and intimate thoughts, feelings and information to another person: vulnerability. Attributions: place blame or give credit, negative or positive. Relationship enhancing: assume negative behavior due to something extern, perceive as something unusual or uncharacteristic, fo(cid:272)us on all other positi(cid:448)e aspe(cid:272)ts don"t d(cid:449)ell. Patterns of effective communication: validating, conflicts resolved through compromise/calm disscuss, volatile, explosive, openly airing feelings, fighting out difference, conflict-avoiding, walk away, let it go, mutual resolution may not be met. Difficulties: misunderstanding by words having different meaning, hookup, literally not speaking the same language, slang, idioms, mixed verbal and non-verbal, not listening carefully, not getting other"s attention.
