There are two specific modos
(moods): indicative and subjunctive
Indicative
● The speaker is sure or has no doubt about what he/she is saying
○ It’s nice outside.
Hace
buen
tiempo.
○ We learn Spanish.
Aprendemos
espa
ñol.
○ It will be easy.
Será
fácil.
● It indicates facts or reality
○ It’s true that the subjunctive is complicated.
■ Es
verdad
que
el
subjuntivo
es
complicado.
○ Cheese is delicious.
■ El
queso
es
delicioso.
Subjunctive
● The speaker is transmitting doubt
○ I doubt it’s a good idea.
■ Dudo
que
sea
una
buena
idea.
○ I don’t think that he’ll come.
■ No
creo
que
venga.
○ They’re looking for someone who speaks Chinese.
■ Están
buscando
a
alguien
que
hable
chino.
● The speaker is attempting to pose his/her will on someone else.
○ I want you to study.
■ Quiero
que
estudies.
○ They demand that I work.
■ Exigen
que
yo
trabaje.
● The speaker is expressing their opinion.
○ It’s good that you are here.
■ Es
bueno
que
estés
aquí.
○ They are happy that the homework is easy.
■ Se
alegran
de
que
la
tarea
sea
fácil.
