In the journal of education, sheryl f (2005) discusses the statistics of the children that go through scared straight programs. Male juveniles that have issues with crime and inappropriate behavior get taken on a tour of a prison and are partnered with a prisoner that has a similar background. The purpose of this is to test the idea that humanizing prisoners to force children into realizing that their behavior will get them to the exact same place that the prisoners are in. The program is also designed to show youth that prison is no place for kids. However, the ultimate research question of the study is to explore the impact of the prisoner;s presentations on the delinquents. One strength of this research is that they personalize the tours based on the troubles of the child. Some of the different topics that are discussed by the prisoners tend to be more effective than others.
