COM 2020 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Psychological Evaluation, Systematic Review, American Academy Of Political And Social Science
Document Summary
Three groups of 50 delinquent children (under 18) with previous experience in juvenile detention centers are used to study the effectiveness of scared straight programs. One group is used to study the effectiveness of the programs with the addition of a psychological mentor program. The youth are interviewed throughout the process to monitor mental health and assessments are done after the study to determine the effectiveness and bring any flaws to the light. Then the youth participants are rated on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the most benefited from the program) to narrow the results. It is no secret that a life of crime is no life for a child. So it is a wonder how we see so many children involved in such a violent lifestyle at such young ages. However, there are programs that are said to help show kids that jail is not the place they want to stay and living dangerously will lead them there.
