Physical abuse that occurs between spouses or dating partners. 25% of women will be physically and/or sexually assaulted by an intimate partner. Now we recognize that women are also violent and the violence in same-sex relationships (discussing this type of violence was taboo in the lgbtiq and feminist communities). What victim-offender relationships are involved (married couples only, including dating couples, age of the couple members, etc. ) What behaviors constitute abuse (only physical, or including emotional and verbal and sexual abuse, threats of violence, etc. Intimate terrorism- men use physical and emotional abuse to control/ coerce a woman to maintain power over her. Isolation of the victim is key (victim cannot leave the home without her partner. Includes sexual violence (the goal is humiliation to maintain power and control). Note that the control is complete- what they wear, who they talk to, how much money they have, what they can say, what they do, etc.
