Document Summary
Unity: collective cohesion- sense of belonging or unity. How well can the group preform different tasks. Joining a group just because of one person in the group: social attraction. Being drawn to the idea of being in a group. Tuckers theory of group development: forming. If there is a leader, conflict starts to develop (us vs. the leader) Now really thinks of themselves as a team. Can take a lot of time to get to the preforming phase: adjourning. Successive stage: going through each of tuckman"s stages. Cyclical model: go through these stages more than once. Become a lot more tied to each other: satisfaction. Us vs. the coach which helped them feel more satisfied. If you become extremely close to a group and someone leaves you become less likely to accept new member. Effort: shared pain, shared fate, can be very effective.
