The root is the foundation of the word. All medical terms have one or more roots. The combining vowel, usually an o, links the root to the suffix or to another root. Combining vowel: vowel (usually o) that links the root to the su x or the root to another root and aids pronuncia1on. Combining form: combina1on of the root and the combining vowel. Hemat/o/logy root su x combining vowel hemat means blood.
