Narcolepsy- rem sleep disorder involving sudden overwhelming urge to sleep: enter rem sleep without control over it, typically happen during tedious activity. Cataplexy- paralysis accompanying rem sleep is suddenly activated while a person is awake: can occur with or without narcolepsy, typically happen during times of strong emotion or physical exertion. Laughing, after being startled: onset problem- happens when it shouldn"t. Rem behavior disorder- mechanism controlling paralysis during rem sleep fails to work properly: individual will act out their dreams, happens periodically, can be dangerous.
