BUS 17 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Head Injury, Retrograde Amnesia, Mirror Neuron
Document Summary
Open head injuries: open head injuries are tbis in which the skull is penetrated or in which fragments of bone penetrate the brain (e. g. gunshot wounds) Behavioral assessment of head injuries: behavior is the most important measure of ns integrity. Subdivision of the frontal cortex: the frontal lobes include all the tissue anterior to the central sulcus, primary motor cortex, specifies elementary movements, controls movement force and direction. Its cells project to subcortical motor structures such as the basal ganglia and the red nucleus as well as to the spinal cord: premotor cortex. Linked with structures capable of emotional behavior: anterior cingulate cortex, makes bidirectional connections with motor, premotor and pfc as well as with the insula. Is most active when a behavioral change is needed and it operates to modulate other networks" acitivties: the pfc is also a major participant in many cortical networks involved in emotional behaviors.
