Task i : the idea of europe: how did the idea of europe evolve historically , greeks and romans were more mediterranean. There was no idea of europe but the spreading of the romans laid a basis for a shared culture across a part of europe. The first maps of europe as a continent are drawn (geography). Furthermore, with the enlightenment, there is an emergence of science and a decline of religion. There now is an emergence of the nation-state. The idea emerges that europe is not only cultural but also political: napoleon : french vision of europe, where france dominates europe (non-peaceful). To interfere with napoleon"s politics, the balance of powers emerges again: industrial revolution : makes europe the centre of power because of its economy and industrialisation. The great nations of europe still rule the world (imperialism): wwi and wii : real consciousness of european identity and new political idea of europe.
