Chapter 5: american renaissance: herman meliville (1819-1891) He wrote moby dick and typee and was a fan on nathaniel hawthorne. Hawthorne feels stalked by melville and also wants to separated himself from his ideas because melville wrote in a very sexual way and often about homosexuals. He had to quit school to help the family financially and later he became a sailor on whaleships, which inspired most of his books and of course also moby dick. His other roman is typee which is autobiographically. He leaves with them for several months and is really happy because they treat him well, on of the women is his girlfriend and he literally lives in paradise. Still he lives in this constant fear that they are really cannibals. They want to fully include him in the tribe which would mean a full covering body tattoo.
