OCEANO 1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Cerebellum, Brainstem, Motor Goal
Document Summary
Hick"s law is a simple idea that says that the more choices you present your users with, the longer it will take them to reach a decision. According to hick"s law the reaction time is the time interval between the presentation of the stimulus and the beginning of the response on it. Hick and hyman examined the relationship between the number of stimuli present and an individual"s reaction time to any given stimulus. As you would expect, the more stimuli to choose from, the longer it takes the user to make a decision on which one to interact with. Reaction time: interval of time between presentation of unanticipated stimulus to beginning of response. Movement time: time between initiation and completion of movement. Reaction time = movement time x processing speed x log2 (n). Processing speed x log2 is the time taken to come to a decision. Movement time is the total time that is not involved with decision making.
