Document Summary
Neurodevelopment a term referring to the brain"s development of neurological pathways that influence performance or functioning (e. g. intellectual functioning, reading ability, social skills, memory, attention, ) The embryo begins as a flat disc of 3 layers of cells: It involves the formation of the neural plate out of the ectoderm. This plate develops into the neural grove and eventually in the neural tube. The neural tube is a hallow tube which give rise to the brain and the spinal cord. After he neural tube formation the forerunners of the major brain regions become apparent. The first stage of the formation of brain structures is called three-vesicle stage: at early stages of development the first three major brain vesicles are visible and start to develop. Those vesicles are: prosencephalon (forebrain), mesencephalon (midbrain) & rhombencephalon (hindbrain). Those three vesicles give rise to five vesicles five-vesicle stage.
