PSYC 395 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: The Automatic, Classical Conditioning, Popping
Document Summary
Classical conditioning is a procedure in which an organism learns an association between a previously neutral stimulus and a stimulus that already evokes a reflexive response. (figure 7. 1, p. 281) Ucs (unconditioned stimulus): a stimulus that automatically elicits a response without conditioning. Ucr (unconditioned response): the automatic, unlearned reaction to a. Cs (conditioned stimulus): a new stimulus that has been paired with a ucs. Cr (conditioned response): the new response to the cs (which is often similar to the automatic, unlearned reaction to a ucs). (figure 7. 4,p. 283) Ucs (the drilling of the teeth) -> ucr (the actual pain) Ucs (the food) -> ucr (the actual food) Cs (the squeaking door) -> cr (comes and sits over like a statue) Ucs (the altoid)-> ucr (fresh taste in mouth) Cs(computer tone)->cr(wanting the altoid, reaching out of hand, Acquisition: the process of conditioning in which the cs is repeatedly paired with the ucs. (when the organism learns)
