Document Summary

The flow is largely in one direction. Transcription: write the information in dna in the rna. Translation: convert the information in rna into the sequence of amino acids in a protein. [clicker]: translation involves making _____ from _____. protein; rna: dna --> rna --> protein = translation. In prokaryotes, transcription and translation occur in cytoplasm. In eukaryotes, transcription occurs in nucleus and translation occurs in cytoplasm. Contains the code to build one polypeptide chain. Ribosomal rna (rrna): small pieces of rna that act part of ribosomes. Rna polymerase binds to dna at a promoter site (tata box) Promote: sequence of nucleotides that says where a gene starts (most common: tata box) Rna polymerase builds the new strand 5" to 3" with complementary rna nucleotides. When rna polymerase reaches termination sequence on dna it leaves the dna template and so does the mrna. Backbone that is transcribed is called the template. Dna nucleotides are used to sequence rna nucleotides.
