Complex medium: composed of digests of chemically unidentified substances (such as yeast and meat extracts) Defined medium: a medium in which a precise chemical composition is known. Culture medium can be prepared as: broth- a liquid solid medium- contains solidifying agent agar. After being heated at 100 c, it solidifies at 40-42 c and will not melt again until temp reaches 80-90 c. Surface can be used for isolation and growth of microorganisms.
