Awareness of the goal: unconscious personal goals. General lack of awareness of the goal. Achievement goals: the major outcome or product that the group intends to produce. Group maintenance goals: a group designed to maintain, strengthen, or ensure the continued existence of the group itself. Examines the value of setting goals and methods for accomplishing them. Should be: specific, hard but realistic, accepted by members, used to evaluate performance, linked to feedback and rewards, set by members, allow for member growth. Usually best when the group is allowed to develop their own goals: this leads to greater motivation and achievement. Better match of member and group needs.
