Document Summary

Diff between linear and transactional model: idea that there"s a starting and stopping point with linear model (morse code example). In reality we know this is not true: reactional model says we are senders and receivers at the same time. Gives us opportunity to look at comm as a process. We hold bosses to a higher standard. We expect higher quality comm in a business setting than normal comm, so when someone isn"t able to be effective it can be their downfall: its strategic task-based messages. Used to build affiliation/connection with another person. Human relations messages important but often forgot about. Messages of praise or support/encouragement to be strategic must recognize the diff types of messages there are and which is best to use communication is limited and hierarchical, top down. Human relations started off as comm free-for-all, open door policy to the extreme. Became more people related and less work related less vertical, more horizontal.
