We join them to fulfill various needs in our lives. Need for control care, not there to socialize. Motivates you to join groups: social member socialize. Underpersonal- doesn"t care: determining each member"s orientation and tailoring interaction to fit. Overpersonal- someone who does care that, helps the group and its members succeed. Need for affection: democratic members control/leadership, personal members. A group of behaviors that is expected and/or displayed by a group member. Behaviors differ depending on which role you play: dean, professor, student, ambassador. We each have preferred roles (roles we are most comfortable performing or roles we have the most interest in performing) Task roles: behaviors related to the accomplishment of the group"s task or achievement goals. Group maintenance roles: behaviors that contribute to the functioning of the group by striving to maintain constructive interpersonal relations, behaviors that satisfy personal needs rather than group goals. Information seeker: asks for clarification of ideas or requests evidence and facts.
