When it comes to groups, communication is what links all the different parts together: poor communication leads to system breakdown, we can part of many systems at once. Closed: isolated from its environment, doesn"t accept input from the outside world, not sustainable. Open: freely exchanged information with the environment, give and take between system and the outside world, potential for growth and long-term survival. One friend in a group has a baby. Quality of open systems: hierarchy: each system has a series of subsystems, the subsystems form a hierarchy of increasing levels of complexity. How are they enforced: cybernetics: the process of adjusting to feedback about outputs.
