GEOL 1001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Cinder Cone, Pyroclastic Flow, Eruption Column
Document Summary
Is temp is rising it shows that the magma is closer to the surface. Low viscosity with lots of gas that flies into the air. More on scoria cones and rock types formed by them. Forms when outside cools and inside is still liquid. Forms tube for the magma to flow through. Called aa lava because it hurts to walk on it. Ropy texture where front cools and forms something that looks like a rope/wavy. Fluid magma form fissures and scoria cones. Can have craters (small depression at the top of volcano) and small calderas. Landslides and mudflows caused by the steep sides and heat. Various types of ash, lava, and mudflows. Grow from the inside as magma is injected into the center. They are destroyed when the steep flanks collapse and explosions form the buildup of gases. Sediment and ash collected in the lower lying areas.
